Known as a death receptor like Fas, TNFR-2, and DR-3, TRAIL is activated upon ligand binding and engages the cells on the cascade of signaling involving caspase activation through an adapter molecule. TRAIL has been shown to induce apoptosis in human melanoma cells and not in healthy cells making it a prime candidate for cancer studies.
